I seek employment as an Editor / Proof-Reader, preferably F/T but P/T hours fine too.
My background (in brief) is as follows: I completed a 'Basic Editing' course through the Publishing Training Centre at Book House, London, a few years ago, following my emigration from England in 2004. Since that time, I have chosen not to pursue editorial work as a career but due to my continued interest in the field I've carried out private work on several occasions for individual students, assisting two with their degree work. One of these has now gone on to successfully gain his Master's degree in Business, and the other is continuing his Law degree studies. Currently, I am undertaking extensive editorial work for an individual on a 66,000 word (333 page) children's novel, of which about one-half has been completed.
My current circumstances are that I was made redundant on 11 April this year from my position of Immigration Adviser in Rangiora. This was due to loss of business stemming from the earthquake, following on from the recent economic downturn. With this in mind, and considering my continuous engagement in editorial and proof-reading work, I believe it may now be a good time to gain a foothold in the industry and so seek suitable employment. My skills in the field are primarily in the areas of punctuation, vocabulary and sentence structure (as opposed to other, more 'technical' editorial aspects, such as production processes / mark-up / design lay-out). These are natural skills which I have enhanced over the past few years, to the point where I believe I am ready to utilise them in a wider role.
In summary, whilst I acknowledge my formal industry experience is limited, I believe I could offer significant value to the publication and prove more than capable of producing high-quality work to make up for my relative inexperience.
